HOW DO I WATER ?
Question:
Hi, It doesn’t look like anyone has tried to answer your question, so thought I’d give it a whirl. The best way to water most orchids is in the morning, being careful to not get too much on the leaves. Watering in the morning will help ensure the plants are dry by nightfall, water left on them overnight is an open invitation for fungus growth. One thing to remember, you cannot water an orchid plant too much but you can water too frequently. What this means is that when you water your orchids, you can water it with lots of water. But, here is the tricky part, most orchids do not like their roots to be constantly wet, moist yes but wet no. Depending upon type of orchid and whether it is potted in medium or is mounted will determine watering frequency, some like lots of moisture while some like to go dry between waterings. You mentioned you have 2 phals and a dendrobium, both like to go almost dry before the next watering. Good luck and good growing.

HOW DO I WATER ? New here! Hi all I have two phals in bark that are in terracota and plastic insert …. one in moss and a dendrobium in what appears to be dirt ..please help, how long do I let the water run out of the pot on the barked ones? thanx Hi, back! And welcome to the club<g. I don’t have anything in
moss, and I’m not experienced w/ dens. BUT, my phals are in bark, too, so I’ll offer this: I water my phals once or twice a week, depending on how dry they seem to be. I let a good stream of water run through the medium for several minutes, and allow the pots to drain in the sink. When I fertilize, I apply the fertilizer after the watering process. I don’think there’s going to be any hard and fast rule about how long to let the water to run out of the pot; it’s going to be a process of you and the orchids getting to know each other. Don’t stress, just sit back and enjoy<g! Regards and good luck! Karen http://www.rollanet.org/~mknisbet/ Before you buy.
