Ignore! Ignore someone who poops on the floor?! My goodness how the mighty have mellowed…… Where is that person wearing the red suit enthrowned in the comfy chair armed with pillows with which to pummel the offender? Sleeping on the job no doubt. Now that we’re using modern mime-enabled news-readers is it okay to post a binary as an attachment as opposed to inline in the body of the mail? I guess it depends on the news-reader and the news-server but I’m thinking that if they are smart, they won’t even download the attachment unless the user clicks on it. If posting as an attachment doesn’t impact anyone who doesn’t want the binary, I’d figure it would be okay. Will can still quarter stick people who post binaries in-line though.
Response:
Dare I say it. Yes, I dare…. maybe this is where the great information about the large green cattleyas is going to appear.

I don’t like people that want to set the rules for other people. This newsgroup is not yours, nor anybody elses! So you think that because you are for a longer period on this newsgroup, you set the rules????? And trying to instigate other I personally think it is much more rude to tell other people what they can or cannot do, than to post an innocent picture of a beautifull flower. I think you are being very brutal. You haven’t made a good impression on me by doing so. People that are constantly nagging about this issue, are greatly spoiling the good atmosphere in newsrooms, also provoking fights and "wars". I’m really sick and tired about this bullying people around and this constant nagging. Maybe if you’d want to do some good for this newsgroup, you could try to keep the atmosphere friendly and informative, and stop harassing and bullying around other people!!! Also, I can make my own decisions about who I find cool or not !!! I’ll consider putting you on my black list of harassers and naggers and ignore you.
Response:
You have really offended me by trying to tell me what I can or cannot do and by trying to diminish my liberty! The internet is a free area, with liberty of speech and doesn’t belong to anyone! In the early days, newsgroups consisted only of textmessages, but guess what?? Times have changed! Using the internet means being flexible and updating every now and then. If you still use an out-dated computer, for whatever reason, that’s your choice and your decision, but stop harassing other people with it, it’s not my problem! Ofcourse, if the reason of not updating is a money-problem, that’s very sad, but still no reason at all to harass other people with it. Up here, when someone drives a horse and weagon on the highway, and tries to harass me into slowing my speed and starts fighting, I call the police and have him locked up. Bah you really spoiled my good mood! Alexandra

There is a newsgroup where binaries are permissible ie alt.binaries.pictures.gardens or other newsgroups that have the word binaries in their title. What is permissible is to post a msg that you have posted a binary to the alt.binaries.pictures.gardens newsgroup. Perhaps it would be better if a small group of stiffheads, that refuse to be flexible and keep on track with technology and regularly upgrade their computer/software, would post to a newsgroup "nobinaries". For technology will progress, it’s only foolish to try to keep everything like it was 25 years ago and in the progress trying to harass other people by doing so. That’s why we’re not in the Stone-Ages anymore. Alexandra

Alexandra, Heavens no. You don’t have to kiss my feet. But my ass does yearn for your sweet tongue and those firm liberty/constitutional-quoting lips of yours. Mick PS, And now you say this rare $5 Home Depot Dendrobium looks like a Paphiopedilum!!! Ha-ha-ha. Very funny stuff… please write some more, we all could use another good laugh. PS2, Sorry about you losing your good mood. I hope you are over it in the normal week it takes to get it back.

Stephen, Then so it is written in the Cyber space log January 27, 2001. Henceforth you shall be known as Uncool Stephen… and not just any Uncool Stephen. You quite possibly may be the Uncoolest Stephen of all the newsgroups on the net. Congratulations my friend. I am sure I speak for many people on RGO when I say we truly look forward to your future volumes of "choice" uncool input. Mick

Better yet, how’s about a large group of mush-heads, that refuse to accept the already established protocol of posting binaries only to newsgroups which specifically permit it, get introduced to their ISP’s Terms Of Service? Besides, if you’re so freakin’ modern, why are you bothering with USENET? -Dave-<a stiffhead
Response:
It would be very hard to be more specific then to say it is a Dendrobium, especially if we are looking at a hybrid. It seems to have a lot of the species Den. nobile in it but that is just a guess. It is likely that the shear number of hybrid possibilities is the main reason you will not get a more sufficient answer from some of the polite knowledgeable Dendrobium experts in the group. Enjoy your stay in our little newsgroup. This is where to come when looking for thicker skin and a hide that doesn’t give hoot. Beautiful photograph, BTW, but then everyone is a critic.

Response:
Hi Mick, Sorry, but I don’t listen to Warren Zevon’s songs, but thanks for the complement, I don’t think anyone has ever called me excitable and I am sure happy to be among the boys again. Unlike you, I don’t keep track of all the people who tune into the RGO and know who is a new reader and who is a long time reader. When I started reading this newsgroup, there was no place where the rules of this newsgroup were posted and where a new reader automatically knew they weren’t supposed to post graphics. To me it is the ultimate cruelty to ignore someone who is seeking help because that person doesn’t know the rules. What you’re telling me and everyone on this newsgroup is to cold shoulder someone who has the audacity to load graphics. Maybe you haven’t noticed but I haven’t loaded any graphics. I know some of the rules of this newsgroup and can understand some of them. The rule about graphics makes perfect sense to me, but that doesn’t mean I agree, or disagree with it. As far as all the cool people go, I didn’t know that was supposed to be a goal in my life and if cool comes close to being cold, no thanks. In retrospect, I imagine it would have been wise to kindly mention that the posting of graphics is frowned upon in this newsgroup and then answer. Sorry, it didn’t occur to me. Concerning respect, there are people in my life where that is terribly important, as to the rest, let them respect me or not. I am not trying to live up to anyone’s expectations on this newsgroup or any other. I am not going to try to be someone I’m not just to please someone I don’t know and who truly doesn’t know me. Hopefully this makes my feelings known. If this offends some, I am sorry, no offense meant. Sorry Mick, cruelty is not my forte, I much prefer humor. Regards, Stephen
