Inspiration
Question:
Phalaenopsis lowii I think is pretty, but don’t have…yet. Cj
I do <smirk
Response:
My Den. Rigidum now has seven flowers and two more spikes. It is sure rewarding for something so small. You can see a picture of it compared to the size of a penny at Vengers picture gallery. Jeanne – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi folks, I’m in need of an orchid fix and want for inspiration! What is you most unusual or favorite species miniature? Favorite is usually whatever is blooming.
At the moment my Den. rigidum is sending out a 3rd spike! Just finishing is Sarcoglyphis (Cleisostoma) comberii. In spike is Amesiella (Angraecum) philippinense. Neofinetia falcata, Schoenorchis fragrans (who spiked but did not bloom for me this year, sigh) and a struggling Leptotes bicolor (it’s sort of a mini) are the others I have and like. Laelia pumila and sincorana are nice as well. Phalaenopsis lowii I think is pretty, but don’t have…yet. Cj

You are right, Den rigidum is very nice, mine is in bloom most of the time. But I already have it!!! AND many of the others people have mentioned! Anyone know of any new small Dens. (not Dockerilla)? They do well for me. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – My Den. Rigidum now has seven flowers and two more spikes. It is sure rewarding for something so small. Well, just going from a list: Dendrobium aberrans Dendrobium aggregatum (lindleyi) Dendrobium dichaeoides Dendrobium senile Dendrobium toressae There was a talk on New Guinea Dens at the club meeting tonight with some beautiful plants. Den. cuthbertsonii has a number of color forms, so you might be able to get a new variant on that. I don’t know the sizes on these, but the photos were very nice: Den. amethystoglossum Den. lawesii Den. miyakei Den. rhodostictum Cj – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – You are right, Den rigidum is very nice, mine is in bloom most of the time. I had a heck of time keeping Dendrobium senile and aggregatum alive. I probably don’t have enough light available in the basement for these. Peggy, SAI region 22

Ah that was helpful Marla! I will definately be adding Den.oligophyllum to my wish list but I already have Soph. cernua (and coccinea), Schoenorchis fragrans, Sophronitella violacia (I heard something about wrestling with Karen for this one?) & Haraella retrocalla, You might want to add Chaubardiella dalessandroii, Tristella hoeijeri & Barbosella cucullata to your list. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit and then there are some of my favorites: the minuscule Oberonia japonica the forever blooming Soph. cernua the 2" tall Den. oligophyllum the brilliant Sophronitella violacia the minute Schoenorchis fragrans the terrific Plecthrophora schmidtii the tiny jewel Lepanthes cochlenrifolin the adorable Ceratostylis philippinensis the charmingly unkempt Scaphyglottis amethystina the dainty Platystele ovatilabia the cute Warmingia eugenii the wonderful Haraella retrocalla And, my current favorites, since I just discovered 2 spikes Macroclinium chasei Hymenorchis (unk. species) suspense IS a wonderful thing! :) Marla Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit <!doctype html public "-//w3c//dtd html 4.0 transitional//en" <html and then there are some of my favorites: <pthe minuscule Oberonia japonica <brthe forever blooming Soph. cernua <brthe 2" tall Den. oligophyllum <brthe brilliant Sophronitella violacia <brthe minute Schoenorchis fragrans <brthe terrific Plecthrophora schmidtii <brthe tiny jewel Lepanthes cochlenrifolin <brthe adorable Ceratostylis philippinensis <brthe charmingly unkempt Scaphyglottis amethystina <brthe dainty Platystele ovatilabia <brthe cute Warmingia eugenii <brthe wonderful Haraella retrocalla <pAnd, my current favorites, since I just discovered 2 spikes <brMacroclinium chasei <brHymenorchis (unk. species) <brsuspense <bIS</b a wonderful thing!
