It's Alive! Dare I hope??
Question:
Hi All, I have a dendrobium in a 2 in pot that I bought several years ago in Hawaii. It is the cheap souvenir kind that hangs in bags on the shelves in ABC Stores. I brought it home to So. Cal, opened the bag, and it promptly shriveled up, I thought it was a gonner. I refused to give up and continued to care for it. After several months it started putting out new growth. Since then, two years have passed with it staying alive and nothing more. Until recently. . I have notice that one of the larger bulbs (about 3/4 in tall) has started to swell and there seems to be a green bump appearing from the center of the top leaves. Do they flower that small? Dare I hope that this is the the beginning of an infloresence? I have several kinds of orchids and have never been able to re-bloom anything accept cymbidiums. I don’t know what the flower looks like on this dendrobium. Excitement is growing or is it only wishful dreaming?! Debra

Debra, it could be a spike or a keiki. As to size, it depends on the dendrobium. — Prem – Animator, programmer, and orchid and fossil nut extraordinaire… – DNRC Title: Minister of Lightwave 3d Plugin Design Foolishness – Home – http://www.PremDesign.com "We in our foolishness thought we were wise He played the fool and He opened our eyes We in our weakness believed we were strong He became nothing to show we were wrong."
