Maybe your question would be better answered if posted at rec.gardens.orchids< as you would get a greater number of people who might have exp. with that orchid in your area.

What part of Texas? It may be too hot and dry in the summer and too cold in the winter.

The Bamboo Orchid should be potted in a coarse mixture of redwood or fir bark, charcoal, and perlite. Peat is too soggy. It should be watered about twice a week with rainwater or distilled water. It should also have a weekly feeding of Peter’s 10-10-10 at half the strength of the recommendation on the container. It should be placed in dappled light and not get much direct sun. The daytime temperature should be 75-85 degrees, the nighttime temperature 65-75 degrees. It needs good air circulation and high humidity 60-80%. If your climate is dry, you’ll have to mist it a couple of times a day, but don’t mist after 6:00 in the evening. It will not winter over, unless you live down near Corpus Christi, you’ll have to bring it in the house and provide all these things for it there. Growing orchids is not easy, but it is rewarding. Aloha: Bamboo orchid is an aerial. I would add 50% perlite to that peat. The minimum temperature for this orchid is 55F if your nights or days are cooler better bring your plant inside. Our company offers Tropical and subtropical Plants if interested pls request an email catalog. we also have a gardening Newsletter we send via e-mail.
