Helen Hersh's Secrets for Growing Orchids in Nov. AOS Bulletin – Any Comments?
Question:
Hi everyone, I read about the article written by Helen Hersh about her secrets in growing orchids especially paphs and phrags and try her method recently. It seems that most of my paphs and phrags are doing well. They are very happy and producing new leaves. One different thing is that I am using boiled water instead of direct tap water because I think this would eliminate some unwanted bacteria. Also at my aunt’s house, she has orchids and waters the plants this way and they are doing very well, blooming all the time. She does not even use any plant food for inducing flowers. If anyone raises orchids this way, please comments. I would love to hear more tips. Thanks and much success in growing orchids, Andy

I doubt that bacteria in tap water have any appreciable effect… If one considers "manure tea," which is a GREAT fertilizer…do you suppose there’s any bacteria in there!?! Orchid plants (Check out the list): http://www.voicenet.com/~raybark
