Hi Ardri Welcome to this forum. Just a helpful hint. I think by accident you posted this message as an ongoing thread to an existing topic. You will probably get more responses by posting it as a New Topic. You do this (in Internet Explorer) by clicking File, New, Mail Message as opposed to pressing the Reply Group button. Apologies if you know this already…:-) Scott Wilson PS: Welcome to the wonderful addiction of growing orchids; may your flowers bloom forever!

As a new bod newly introduced to growing orchids, any help and suggestions would be appreciated. I have aquired some Cymbidiums and have joined an orchid society. I am Interested in lists of orchid names and history, maybe some one has an idea where I could get some information Share what you know. Learn what you don’t.

Some people like to take the tourist bus and others like to drive themselves. Each has it’s benefits I guess.

the original "paph concolor" may have been a post with nothing in it but a photo file. I dont download files off newsgroups–(would be better to share a photo on a website, IMHO)–so didnt see it. maybe that’s what you missed. actually, I just got a Paph. Concolor and would have liked some comments about the plant…

Paph. concolor is a nice little species. Grow it a bit on the dry side. Blooms in the mid to late summer for me, sometimes again in the midwinter if I get lucky. Good clones will have nice rounded flowers, even, fine spotting, and sometimes upwards of three flowers per infloresence. Four is the most I’ve seen, and I’ve never done it myself. Three is not that unusual anymore. Size of the flowers is not (in my opinion) as important as shape, color, and flower count for this species. You are unlikely to see an extraordinarily large flowered concolor in any case, especially if you are used to looking at bellatulums. As with many of the brachypetalums/parvisepalums, single flowered is not exactly the best description for this species. I would say commonly single flowered, occasionally multiple flowered as for many of the species in these sections. Per inflorescence, obviously a larger and well grown plant can have multiple flowers with only one per inflorescence… A truely well grown one with several per is quite a sight. Some breeding to watch for: Anything coming out of AnTec (Wellenstein) is a must have. Orchid Zone (OZ) is doing some good work as well. If you are buying from a local or hobby grower, ask about the stud plants. You want stud plants similar to the good ones described above. How’s that for comments? *grin* Rob
