Anceps

Question:

Well, my spiked Anceps is going to get moved because If I don’t move it, I know it will blast.   I summer my orchids outside, and spending the winter out-of-doors in Wisconsin at 30 below zero would be fatal.     So when I move it in at September’s end is there anythng at all I can do to stop the buds from blasting?   I have put the plant on notice.  Told it if the buds blast It’s going to the next plant auction!  It’s a gorgeous, healthy plant that  I grew from a seedling.  -Carroll Last week there was discussion in a thread that referred to bud blast in L. Anceps. One contributer said he grew many of them and had them blast buds if Is this when buds were actually showing, or even if they were just coming in to "spike"?  I have one with 4 spikes, but wonder if I can move it into my new screen house since buds are not showing??  Thanks! HI BUD BLAST! I HATE THAT!!! There are many conditions that might cause this. A sudden change in temp..light…humidity A draft…. Ever got a phal in the mail with a 10 inch spike with 15 buds just to watch them turn yellow/.brown and drop off? When it’s spiking or budding leave it alone…don’t move it. When it flowers enjoy it and move it if you must. A sudden move may cause stress that will make the plant abort the flower mode and go into the survival mode. When you do move it to it’s new space it may regress a bit and. may miss a flowering next time. Hope this is helpful…Check out the American Orchid Society< http://orchidweb.org They will be very happy to give you any helpand  guidance you might need Good GROWING!
