Australian Orchids
Question:
Hello World, We are interested in finding out information concerning Australian Native Orchids. We are also interested in finding out anybody who is dealing with native orchids as well, no matter what part of the world. Please email me concerning this or another information concerning orchids, as we are trying to establish a network for the Australian Native Orchid Soc. Response:
Hello World, Australian natives are & have been the in thing orchid in New
zealand for the last 5/6 years. Dendrobiums in particular followed by Sarcochilus. I personally have found that they grow better here than in Australia. There are a number of growers who specialise in them including myself. The biggest problem we have with them is judging. My wife & myself judged a show at Coffs Harbour a couple of years ago & we thought that the system of judging them as Den kingianum. tetragonum or speciosum classes are better than the way we judge them here mostly by colour or as a speciman plant. They are all just mostly coming in to flower from now on, the main season is September. Although because of modern hybrids some flower all through the year. Notify me of any of your specific requirements. Regards We are interested in finding out information
