Question:
I recently notice some cottony, asterik(*) shaped masses on the back of the leaves on my Lc. Casitas Spring . There are also little white dots on the flower sheathes. I’ve read about scale, mealys, etc. in this group, but not sure what I have or the best way to treat it. When I wipe them with a tissue with alcohol on it, the result is a yellowish stain on the tissue. For now, I’ve given it a light spray of Xclude which is Pyrthrum based, but not sure if this will do it in the long run. Thanks in advance for your help! — Eric B. It’s probably mealybugs or perhaps soft scale. Either can have a cottony appearance. Mealies are semi-mobile and can walk around, while scales hold fast to the leaf where they "plant" themselves. — Prem – Animator, programmer, and orchid and fossil nut extraordinaire… – DNRC Title: Minister of Lightwave 3d Plugin Design Foolishness – Home – http://www.PremDesign.com "We in our foolishness thought we were wise He played the fool and He opened our eyes We in our weakness believed we were strong He became helpless to show we were wrong."
