My local orchid society’s green house (about 10 X 30 metres slightly more if you work  in yards, but you get the picture), is heated by gas, which it is thought is causing considerable yellowing of leaves, and flower buds to drop.  Any mature flowers are turning to mush.  Is the gas heating actually the problem, and if so, what are the alternatives? Pam

Response:

The gas is the most likely culprit, but it shouldn’t be causing that much of a problem if the system was installed correctly and is operating properly. We had a similar problem once and found that the heaters had been installed with an incorrect part, so that excessive amounts of gas were being emitted into the shadehouse, rather than burned for heat.  Best of luck, — Kenni Judd Juno Beach Orchids http://www.jborchids.com

Response:

Hi Pam, Do you know what kind of gas heater it is? Also does it have a Chimney? If no chimney then that is the problem.
