Mormodes

Question:

That does not look like any photo af a Mormodes I have seen before. Looks more like an Epidendrum? Scott – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Since it’s not a common orchid, I should mention there is a picture of a mormodes at <http://www.viviorchids.com photo site. Thanks, David Hi folks, I have a question about Mormodes flowering period. I acquired two plants this year and neither have flowered yet. Their leaves are starting to yellow at the tips and I presume they are about to go dormant. What time of year/stage of growth do they flower? Have I missed it this year? Scott, We don’t often grow Mormodes and I think we only have a handful at the moment, but we treat them exactly like Catasetums. That’s more for our convenience than anything else, but it seems to work out well with the plants blooming in early Summer. I suspect you’re right about the dormancy and if they are insistent about it, stop watering and feeding until Spring. -Rod- Venger’s Orchids Website http://www.vengers.com/ Basic Culture CD-ROM: http://vengers.com/demo/cd.htm

This is a Nanodes medusa.  It used to to be in the epidendrum family.  It comes from Ecuador.   I grow it cool to intermediate.  They are apparently hard to grown yet though mine doesn’t grow well it does bloom branch and not diminish in size. Is this one of the Epi. species that was moved with porpax to Neolehmannia or something like that? JAmes

I photographed this odd Mormodes medusa at the 15th World Orchid Conference in Rio de Janeiro Brazil in 1995. I suppose it could have been mislabeled… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – That does not look like any photo af a Mormodes I have seen before. Looks more like an Epidendrum?
