Questions about flowers
Question:
Does anyone know about the meaning behind certain flowers, by that I mean red roses are a symbol of love, so do yellow or white roses mean something too ? What about other types of flowers, anyone any ideas ? My understanding is that flower arrangements were once used as a "private" communication medium. In any case, there are several books that address this topic. My wife owns one (author = Kate Greenway ?) but I copied the following list from a review of David Conway’s _The Magic of Herbs_. (I believe yellow roses, my favorite color, signify Friendship. I also suspect that there is no universal agreement on flower symbolism.)
Yes, there are several "language of flowers" lists, all rather different. But if my field work partner is operating off your list, I think we need a long talk, since he gave me blue iris, yellow orchids and ivy for my birthday… ;-) As far as roses go, the lists I’ve seen seem to indicate red roses for passion, white roses for innocence, yellow for friendship and orange for a friendship that seems to be getting a bit warmer… Kay BTW, presenting the flowers stem side up reverses the meaning in most "floral languages".
