Request suggestions on tillers

Question:

I am considering the purchase of a tiller.  I have a 1/4 acre lot.  I need a tiller that will be suitable for use in flower beds and small a vegetable garden.  Any suggetsions?

We have a Mantis tiller which is now well over 10 years old.  It was just in for its first major overhaul in all that time.   It is perfect for small jobs such as cultivating around vegetables and preparing borders.   When we have needed deep tilling or sod breaking (haven’t needed that for some time now),  we hired someone to bring in a really big tiller.  Then we used the Mantis to finish things up. Although I’m not a rose expert, my impression is that you should not use a tiller in the rose bed – use a mulch. — Nick – NJ – Zone 6b/7a "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler." -
