Unidentified pescatorea

Question:

I have no idea what the species is, but… CAN I HAVE A PIECE????? — Ray Barkalow < First Rays Orchids         Secure Online Ordering        http://www.firstrays.com

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I received a plant labeled Pescatorea lehmannii December of 1997. The plant had been imported from South America, but country of origin is unknown to me. The plant bloomed yesterday and is obviously not Pescatorea lehmannii. Many previously described pescatorea species are now considered to be natural hybrids, sometimes with bollea and such may be the case with my plant. View the flower at the following URL. I’d be interested in hearing from anyone that knows the plant’s name or has seen an identical specimen. Dale Borders http://www.bytheseadesign.com/orchid.htm

Dan and Marla Nikirk  wrote : I asked first!!!!  Ray!!!!!!!  :) If my pollination effort leads to viable seed you both can purchase a flask of 25-30 seedlings for probably less than industry standards. Troy Meyers will be conducting propagation efforts, and has seed of 35 of my species in flask; I have another 176 species capsules awaiting maturity. Troy’s received many more protocorms and seed in addition to mine and his web site will soon (pending and during construction of his new ‘Cadillac’ GH-facility) be available for perusal and flask reservations. I’ll post his URL to the group when it’s available. Meanwhile, have a saucer of cream. Dale

Marla and Ray,   Pencil me in for a seedling or two from your future flasking efforts re: Dale’s unidentified orchid.   I should figure on a ready date, say, ten years or so from now….?  Don’t forget me now, ok<g?   Regards,   Karen   http://www.rollanet.org/~mknisbet/ Before you buy.

Hey Dale!   Haven’t been impressed by too many plants lately, but that one’s a show-stopper if the color is that deep!! Does look like it could be a hybrid. I’ve got a dark flared Pesc. wallisii, which if I used my toothpick imagination might get your plant. Hoping your’s is a species! Jimm PS. Sold the Bulbo. lasiochilum yesterday. Just another color form. Thanks again for you input! Roberts Orchids Minnesota – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

It truly is a gorgeous flower and a nice photo. Do you mind my asking where (from whom) you imported it? Also Dale do you do speaking engagements? If so do you get to the east coast often? I couldn’t help but notice all of the wonderful photos attributed to you on Jay’s site. PS I’d like a flask or a few seedlings myself when the time comes. Max Before you buy.
