Vanda Miss Joacquin (Singapore Orchid)

Question:

Please help, my wife is in need of a photo./description of the Singapore Orchid. I have hunted the WWW high and low but can find no reference to it. Please can someone help. Thanks

Response:

I think your spelling is incorrect, it should be "Vanda Miss Joaquin" and not "Joacquin". By the way you could get some info from the following web pages:- http://www.sg/infomap/mita/discovery.htm http://www.sg/infomap/mita/contenders.htm http://www.sg/infomap/mita/choose.htm Good Luck! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Please help, my wife is in need of a photo./description of the Singapore Orchid. The name is correctly Vanda Miss Agnes Joachim (pronounced jo-WAY-km). It is a very old hybrid and was grown in the fields in rows in the Asian tropics as a cut-flower orchid.  It is a terete (tee-REET) orchid, meaning having round leaves instead of flattened ones, and it preferrs full sun to grow and bloom properly. It likes to be grown in high humidity and in the tropics it gets rained on a lot, then dries off in the bright sun.  It needs good ventilation, too. Long ago (before being replaced by dendrobiums) it was used in Hawaii to make leis.  Many orchid nurseries offer this orchid as top cuttings 12 to 18" long for reasonable prices. Hope this helps.
