Volcano Queen
Question:
If the conditions are similar then yours should bloom in February or March. Many Potinara bloom in October as on display at our society meeting. On another note, I visited Akatsuka in Volcano, Hilo, Hawaii last spring. Have they a web site or just a phone number? . . . Pam P. S. It is difficult to tell the difference between Akatsuka’s Onc. Volcano Queen and Onc. Sharry Baby. Or, should I say, is there anyone who can tell the difference? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Saw one in bloom last year in late Feb-early Mar in Louisiana. Nice flower, made me go hunt down a mericlone for myself. Does anybody know anything about Pot. Hisako Akatsuka ‘Volcano Queen’, HCC/AOS? I’m wondering if it has a ‘normal’ time of year to bloom. This year’s ps. bulb seems to be a lot more swollen than the previous growths, but I’ve never seen this type of orchid come into bloom. (Yes, I could just wait and watch, but it’s more fun to ask about it

of the bloom on this one; I bought it strictly from the description in the Kensington Orchids catalog. Karen Before you buy.

Hi Karen… Pot. Hisako Akatsuka ‘Volcano Queen’ HCC/AOS This plant was awarded in November of 1992 with 78 points. The flowers were described thusly: "Five flowers on two inflorescences well-held above foliage; sepals with dark lavendar splash; petals rose-lavendar with magenta tip flares with yellow at base of the column; lip magenta with yellow accent toward base of column; column and anther cap white." Sounds pretty cool to me. If that plant was blooming in Hawaii in November 1992, it is a fair assumption that it is capable of blooming in your house this time of year.
