Potting Ascda.

Question:

I use styrofoam in all of my pots and many growers here do the same. They work very well. I did once see a report that said that some types of the new environmentally friendly peanuts break down after time. I guess you need to keep a watch for this type, but I have never found any that did this.

Most of the "environmentally friendly" ones are made from starch, and are water-soluble…they won’t work for more than a watering or two. — Orchid plants (Check out the list): http://www.voicenet.com/~raybark

Hi.. If we may interject a few comments on Ascda potting.   We import 100 s of bareroot Ascda and Vanda hybrids each year.  Each is placed into a 4" wooden basket and secured until their roots attach to the wooden box, usually within a month or two. Nothing else is ever put in the box.  The roots grow tremendous. Fertilizer mixed with water and  hosed on several times a week, because the roots are able to rapidly absorb the water/fertilizer, then quickly dry out.  The Ascdas usually bloom twice, sometimes three times a year.  But in Florida they never rest so that helps. : lThey work very well. I did once see a report that said that some types : lof the new environmentally friendly peanuts break down after time. I : The new peanuts are cornstarch based. We’ve thrown them into water and : they last no more than a few minutes before starting to dissolve. -Rod- They also come in many colors (pink, blue, green, yellow, purple, etc.) and you can lick them and stick them to things (for example, someone’s back, or as a substitute for Christmas lights – they don’t need a cord, and they are much more energy efficient and environmentally sound). -J Do people really think they have morals? Do people kill for greed? Do people think balancing the budget is a good thing?                 "People do."                                   -Chevron Oil Company
