Any not to be missed greenhouses or shows?
Question:
Hi Everyone! I will be in the Dallas Fort Worth-Austin-San Antonio Texas areas around the 20th of May. Are there any not to be missed greenhouses/growers, Gardens or shows in these areas around this time? Thank you in advance for any information! Chris
Response:
I shop at Gunter’s Greenhouse in Dallas and I cannot say enough nice things about them. Their phone number is 1-800-527-3646. They are about 3 minutes west of Interstate 75 (AKA Central Expressway) on Campbell just north of Dallas in Richardson. The Botanical Gardens in Fort Worth are just north of I-30 on University and also have an indoor greenhouse that is well worth the stop off the highway. (Sorry, I don’t have a phone number handy for them.) The Arboretum in Dallas has just had "Dallas Blooms" which is the most impressive display that occurs there, but it is still a beautiful group of gardens (50+ acres). The Dallas Arboretum is located at 8617 Garland Road (turn right off I-635) in Dallas, TX 75218-3993, phone 214-327-8263. Hope this is useful to you, Sheila – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi Everyone! I will be in the Dallas Fort Worth-Austin-San Antonio Texas areas around the 20th of May. I love it! I _just_ got back from Gunter’s Greenhouse/Whiterock Orchids over lunch. I couldn’t agree with Sheila more. It is a great place and they have wonderful orchids for sale and lots of them. Andy is the orchid expert and is always ready with great advice and has repotted my orchids several times always providing a detailed assessment of their health along with helpful pointers about their care. I believe Andy is the president of the local Orchid Society, at least he used to have a leadership position. Gunter himself is also always ready to help and knows a lot about Plumeria. I fun place to visit with great people! They have a great collection of Plumeria as well (or Frangipani – flowers are used to make leis in Hawaii) trees and rooted cuttings to those who might be interested. Check out their amazing specimens (not for sale) that they have in the greenhouse along with the orchids. They have other tropical plants for sale as well, but they specialize in orchids. If you can get a peek at their back greenhouse, normally out of bounds, Wow! You’ve never seen so many orchids! Those of you who might have purchased an orchid at Home Depot or somewhere similar and want to "graduate"? This is the place to go in the Dallas area. Jim H
