Brassavola glauca

Question:

I have a Brassavola glauca that I received as a gift.  It is in a four inch clay pot and has 11+ bulbs and is potted in bark.  As I mostly grow phals, I am not familiar with the best way to repot it.  I would like to divide it and put half on a tree fern slab and half back in a pot.  Would it be o.k. to grow it in NZ Spaghum Moss, or does it have to be in bark? I have never seen it bloom as it was a gift from my husband when he took a trip to Florida in January and the bud was chilled during his return through the Detroit Airport (28 degrees and a strong wind).  It turned black and soft any, obviously, never opened.  When would it be expected to rebloom? Thanks in advance. Jamie rec.gardens.orchids {unread}

Response:

I grow mine potted in a tree-firn–charcoal–fine bark mix that allows the plant to dry out between waterings. I would think that pure NZ would be too wet. It blooms in the early spring (March) with whitish-green very very sweet smelling flowers. I would think it could do OK on a slab if your growing area has a lot of humidity and it was watered several times per week. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I have a Brassavola glauca that I received as a gift.  It is in a four inch clay pot and has 11+ bulbs and is potted in bark.  As I mostly grow phals, I am not familiar with the best way to repot it.  I would like to divide it and put half on a tree fern slab and half back in a pot.  Would it be o.k. to grow it in NZ Spaghum Moss, or does it have to be in bark?
