Carnivorous Bog Plants

Question:

A point that may need mentioning is that many carnivorous plants have been endangered by over-collecting in the wild.  Nepenthes species have been heavily poached, even out of national parks in Borneo.  Please buy only genuine nursery-bred stock. Also remember that Nepenthes, Sarracenia (purpurea at least) and Venus Flytrap are listed on the Appendices to CITES and require appropriate permits for cross-border transport. — Ronald I. Instead of E-Mailing Greg, could any posts be placed here? There are several of us with the same projects that have requested this information in the past. Thanks, – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

I have been away from CP for awhile. One of the best ways I’ve found to meet people and correspond is to join the International Carnivorous Plants Society (ICPS). Dues are $15/yr. At least 2 of the co-editors have Internet addresses and ICPS has a seedbank of many CP from around the world available to members at $1/packet. Correspondence about ICPS should be sent to: ICPS c/o Fullerton Arboretum, CSUF, Fullerton, CA 92634 I have some very old Sarracenia seed (8 yr) for trade for other interesting seed. At least some of it germinates (leuco & rubra & maybe more) from seed I’ve test planted in the last 3 weeks. If you Ron

This is a place I’ve     gotten some things from, like a few wildflowers and seed     packets, flats, and other items.  Some products which may     interest members of this group are:       o Darlingtonia ($2.95 each but probably tiny)       o Plastic pots (round and square) 2.25”—10”,         reasonable prices (i.e. 100 4” pots $12.20) but         I don’t know colour or sturdiness       o Various plastic flats       o Pyrethrins (conventional wisdom says CP-friendly)         insecticide $3.19       o Gibberellic Acid       o Plastic Pot labels about $4.00/100       o Max/Min thermometers $23.00       o a LOT of ways to make cheap greenhouses out of polyethylene etc. [end inserted file] —       "Exalted Master, you told us that the world would end yesterday."       "My child, it did end yesterday, but you’re too sinful to notice."
