CFV on rec.plants* Where is it?

Question:

I don’t know about r.g.roses, but I think you’re wrong about r.g.orchids. I monitored rec.gardens for a while before the creation of the orchid group.  About all I saw involving orchids were multiple repetitions of "where do I find orchid stuff" which was answered with "Subscribe to the listserve digest."  r.g.orchids created a forum for orchid postings that did not exist in rec.gardens.  It did not clearly diminish rec.gardens, as it has only a very peripheral relationship to the parent group.  IMHO, moving rec.gardens.orchids to rec.plants.* would diminish neither rec.gardens nor *.orchids Nicholas Plummer

Response:

: This is what Richard J. Sexton wants. Most of the people who post news in : rec.gardens, even if they want to reorg the group, would rather do it : without Sexton and his proposal. : Dream on. (please stand back, minor flammage ahead :-(   )     Y’know Richard, for someone who _needs_ support to have his idea come to fruition (rec.plants, or whatever final incarnation it comes to be), you are singularly successfull in both antagonizing and alienating the very people you _need_ support from.    And for your information, while tale suggested we work together to try to come up with a comprehensive plan, that DOESN’T mean you are now reorganizing rec.gardens or need to be a part of our proposal for it to go ahead. –Max —

Response:

Look for the CFV "real soon now" 8-) If you see a CFV, please post the fact in rec.gardens. I am strongly opposed to any reorganization or fragmentation of rec.gardens. John Well why don’t you prepare an RFD to incorporate rec.gardens.roses and rec.gardens.orchids back into rec.gardens.

No. Maintaining harmony is more important than some coercive or underhanded attempt to make things "right." I am an avid rosarian and would love to see roses back in rec.gardens, but I would never disrupt rec.gardens.roses. Since roses moved to another forum, I rarely look into it. Almost never. Likewise with .orchids (I have only five). I don’t want to subscribe to many groups. Clearly, they’re leaving wrecked the group.

Clearly, their leaving diminished it. John "The aristocracy of intellect admits nothing of democracy"                                      – Robertson Davies

keeping track of the dates. A UVV member has volounteered to run the vote for rec.plants.*, at this point the only thing holding things up was that the proponents address for this proposal didn’t work.

Response:

When will we see the CVF for the rec.plants* organzation?  Are we waiting for R. Sexton to write the proposal? I may be mistaken, but i do think he has a limited amount of time in which to present this proposal.  Is anyone keeping track of the dates. If there is a mail discussion going on concerning this reorg, I would like to be included.  It would be nice to get this thing settlerd so we can get back to gardening and greenery. In case the cross post doesn’t make it to rec.gardens, here’s Richard’s proposed schedule on the matter.  I’ve added myself to the mailing list he’s created, mainly because I trust him about as far as I can throw my John Deere.  If you feel the same way, or any other way send add yourself to his mail list. Christopher J. Netter P.S. Will wonders never cease?  This is the first civil response that I’ve seen from Sexton. I’m not predicting a trend though. ;) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – It can safely be said that Natasha and her husband are not the only ones who are opposed to this idea. Um, ok. Hey Richard, has it occurred to you that your style of insulting everyone who doesn’t agree with you may be wearing a little thin?  And that it may have hurt your credibility, causing people not to trust your motives? This is why folks are making comments like the following. An idea that has merit, or not, is to be judged independantly of the personality or the protagonist. With all due respect, this is not an acceptable alternative.  We cannot trust Richard to moderate such a discussion in anything approaching a non-partisan, let alone civil, manner. But seriously, this RFD has gone on long enough to make it clear that there are two side and nobody is going to move. I posted a revision of my idesa, and expressed a desire to work with who- ever is planning the rec.gardens reorg in a comprehensive effort. I’m not really sure what more I can do EXCPE MAYBE TYPE IN ALL CAPS I doubt that a mailing list discussion will cause either of these two sides to move. With a preconception like that, of course it won’t. Other proposal have been made, with the most commonly heard one being most recently echoed by Mike Chapman Ok, so maybe I was wrong about that personality thing. Let’s put this baby to bed and call for a vote. Here’s my projected timeline: another week to collect mailing list members a month of dicsussion a comprehensive RFD two weeks of discussion (possible 1 month for revision and re-issuence of another rfd) voting You can’t rush these things, not when you’re talking about the simultaneous 1) reorganization of a popular newsgroup, 2) creation of a new hierarchy and 3) conversion of several mailing lists to newsgroups. If done properly, it will be a structure that will last for years, instead of being back here again next here, same bat time, same bat channel. —                     http://www.vrx.net/richard

A UVV member has volounteered to run the vote for rec.plants.*, at this point the only thing holding things up was that the proponents address for this proposal didn’t work.  Fortunately, Mr. Sexton has several addresses around the net and the vote taker was trying to contact Richard at some of these other addresses last I checked.  It’s standard procedure for a vote taker to verify the CFV by showing it to the proponent (to double check the charter, names, etc.) before it is officially posted to news.announce.newgroups etc.  This keeps the number of errors down. Look for the CFV "real soon now" 8-)    george william herbert   |  UVV coordinator – for UVV information,
