House Plants N.G.?

Question:

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Actually, rec.gardens is a very appropriate place to discuss house plants.  What might be a house plant to you might also be a garden plant to me. I know that orchids are grown outdoors in some places, but most are house plants in my area.  Right now, I have Hahn’s ivy and Sprenger asparagus growing both indoors and out.  I have a Ficus benjamina out on my front porch; my mother (about 30 mi away) has one in her living room. — David Ross Climate:  California Mediterranean Sunset Zone: 21 — interior Santa Monica Mountains with some ocean influence Gardening pages at http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/6727/garden.html

Hi David,       The more I read the N.G. the more I realized that this was the place. I sure appreciate your reply though! I think this N.G. is great! it’s a wonderful way to beat the Winter blues. Thanks again, Michelle Zone 5

Hi,   I just found your N.G. and it’s really interesting. I’m sure I’ll be reading it often. I was wondering if anyone knows of a N.G. devoted to house plants. I like to grow things indoors as well as outdoors.

David, You might be surprised at just how many Orchids are grown outside in the L.A. area. It is seasonal, with many if not most of the plants coming indoors in the winter. My folks had hundreds of Orchids outside on the pool deck in Woodland Hills when I was a kid. -Rod- Venger’s Orchids Website http://www.vengers.com/
