Question:
As I am a new orchid mother (1 month) I am finding this new lifestyle to be very enjoyable. I presently own (or am owned by???) a phal, and am interested in getting another plant. I am keeping them in my living room which has south and east facing windows, plenty of fresh air, and decent humidity. My question is what type of orchid would do well in my environment? As a side note I live in zone 7. Thanks in advance!

Wait a few months to see how your phal progresses. At this time of year it should be growing new leaves & roots. If the new leaf is weak & floppy, it is not getting enough light. If it does well, you can try other colors of phals & some paphs. You could try one or two cattleyas if you can put them outdoors for the summer. Response:
Try another Phalenopsis (Phal orchid world is particularly nice). They are pretty easy to grow and should do fine in your environment. In zone 7, you should let your new babies play outside in the shade during the summertime. This will do worlds of good for them. Darin

Sounds like you have been infected with the need-more-orchids virus. There is no cure. Obtaining another orchid will just cause the disease to become more serious. — D. Hi Scott . I thought the Need-more-orchid-Virus was notifiable to the local Authority as a dangerous disease! It is after all very infectious. Mind you it is one of the nicest viruses that I have ever caught. Regards, Ted. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Sounds like you have been infected with the need-more-orchids virus.
