do I have to cut my phalaenopsis
Question:
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Jaws, if you want you can wait until the spike dries up and turns brown – it may bloom again if it stays green. some growers believe that the spikes associated with the first blooms should be cut off right after blooming in order to make the plant stronger in the future. in other words, take a look at the flowers and then sacrifice them for a better plant. i tried this once and the phal rebloomed in about two months and is doing well – at least as good as the others in the same compot – none of which have bloomed even once yet. this little gem bloomed about 6 months out of the compot. i let the blooms go to the bitter end the second time it bloomed. if the plant begins to show any signs of stress, cut off the spike for sure. other than that, it’s your call.
I’ve had good luck waiting for the flowers to fade and then cutting the spike just above the bottom flower. It will usually branch and flower immediatly

Hello, i’m new in orchid land but my beautifull phalaenopsis has bloomed for the first time for about a month or two. Now a new stalk is growing. Do I have to cut the old stalk. When exactly and how. Thank you already. Jaws
– NO! Don’t cut the old spike unless it is brown and dry like straw. And please, the next time you have a question ask it once and then be patient. Bruce W. Wisener Passionflowers
