Question:
Rule number one: Stay calm. Rule number two: Bright indirect light. No DIRECT sunlight. Don’t worry about cloudy days. Ever grow an African Violet? Same kind of light intensity. The leaves should never feel hot and only rarely should you see a shadow when you hold your hand about a foot above the leaves. Rule number three: When the stalk turns brown then cut it down. The fleshy nodes you seek are the thingies that connect the pieces of flower stalk together. They are the joints. Sometimes Phals will branch from these stalk nodes. The stalks (inflorescences are the botanically preferred name) may die back (turn brown) to just above one of these nodes and branch from just below the dead brown part. Sometimes they don’t; they just die back all the way to the plant. You can cut it off where you want to or you can wait… they choice is yours. Of course, since it still has flowers you don’t need to make this choice yet. Rule number four: Old flowers will die off first. They get real thin and then kind of fold up. Flowers on Phals can last for months or just weeks depending on the hybrid. I would not worry about the old flower with the hole, but I would keep an eye on it. A calm observant eye… ;-) Welcome to the ‘can’t get enough’ club. You will own another orchid shortly… Al – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hello! I need your help.
